Quality education shouldn’t be tied to money. At COE, we believe access to quality education should be free and can be used to unlock doors to new opportunities for children and their families to realize their full potential.
Maya Universe Academy was the first school to sit under the COE umbrella with the mission to help make the dreams of children a reality and provide them with the best possible opportunities. This mission cannot succeed without financial funding as both Maya Universe Academy and COE continue to evolve. The goal for COE is to help provide quality education to children in rural Nepal today, and in the future grow to be able to educate children across the world. To help make this dream a reality, COE requires donations that will go towards helping improve the lives of these children!
Maya Universe Academy opened its doors in 2011 providing education to students from a tent. From the early days, the families of students enrolled were an active part of Maya’s growth. Parents of students built the school, they ploughed the fields, and planted seeds for Maya’s future.
In return, we committed ourselves to providing their children quality education and development skills required for a bright future. Quality Education is for all.
Through agriculture, we are able to feed our students and staff. Animal farming is creating jobs and generating income to sustain the school’s expenses.
Further investment was made in poultry farming, handicrafts, travel experiences and more. Through Social Entrepreneurship, Maya Universe Academy is changing the way education presents itself in rural communities.
Through an international network consisting of all kinds of different individuals and teams, who support the schools in their own way. In addition to our own Dutch foundation, teams are now active in France, Germany, Spain, The United States and South Korea. Maya Universe Academy remains independent in the choices she makes as an organisation, and generates its income from her social enterprises. Maya simultaneously receives financial support from private individuals and funds that appreciate and support our working methods and beliefs.
We believe that sustainable positive social change is a slow but continuous process. That’s why our students remain Mayans all their lives. Thus, we are still very involved with our first students and their families. We support them during their further education and life choices. Maya Universe Academy currently focuses on stabilizing it’s three schools and developing her education system. Ultimately, we hope to be able to open multiple branches with the help of our own Mayans and together make high-quality education accessible in all rural areas worldwide.
Maya currently cares for ninety children aged six to seventeen. Maya Home is not an orphanage, but an educational institution that houses students from many different backgrounds. Around forty students came from Maya’s old primary school in Udayapur to continue their education at our secondary school in Tanahun.
Our older students have been living with us since they were six years old and are now developing into responsible young adults who care for the younger students, their schooling and the future of the Maya community. The education and living environment at Maya motivate them to make a positive impact on the world around them in their own way. Some pursue a career in politics and some want to study law, while others want to tell powerful stories through film and photography. And still others dream of a future at one of the Maya schools, teaching the next generation of Mayans.
To provide our students with a living environment in which they can flourish as individuals and as a team, we need $95/€80 per month per child. This gives them access to inclusive and good education, a nutritious diet, healthcare, warm clothing and a comfortable room. There will always be a team of permanent staff present to offer a guiding hand or a listening ear.
